The Child Development Centre will be a child-centered and family-focused service for children involving both health and community services.
The rehabilitative specialized disciplines under a common roof and provide multidisciplinary care.
The main objective of the centre is to minimize institutionalization and promote community based care
by providing appropriate interventions and guidance to children and their families to achieve goals
improve child development within the context of the home, family, and immediate social environment.
The center is staffed by a skilled multidisciplinary team including :
Syndromes and/or behavior problems associated with developmental delay
Neurodegenerative disorders
Specific learning Disorders
Motor skill delay
The services catered to by the facility
include :
Empower and enable families
to become problem solvers who are independent of services.
Comprehensive assessments
by specific professions and/or multidisciplinary teams.
Provide individual programs
for children with identified developmental needs, and their caregivers
Medical assessment and
follow up of children with diagnosed or suspected developmental concerns
Community engagement -
Communication with carer’s and educational institutions to integrate care plans within the child’s
daily environment.
Provide assistance and
guidance in acquiring rehabilitative tools and equipment.
Accessibility
The service will focus and give priority to those requiring support from multiple disciplines.
The service is accessible through a triaging system, which has an eligibility
criterion allowing those referring to be clear on the areas needing support.
Referrals are accepted from paediatricians, specialist doctors and allied health
specialists via a referral form available on the website. Patients and families requiring
services from the child development centre without referrals will be directed to appointments
with the paediatrician in HMH for screening and referral if required.
Future
The child development centre works towards establishing a sustainable and an accessible service which is backed by
proper resources and evidence based practices to ensure smooth functionality in catering to the children with
different disabilities in the Maldives. The aim is to expand services to regional levels and achieve equity in care to all.
